הן חלק מחיי – האמהות.
כך הן נקראות בבית האלמנות של עמותת MAITRI, בניהולה של Winnie Singh – מקום שמעניק מחסה וכבוד לנשים מבוגרות, שנדחו ממשפחותיהן לאחר מות בן הזוג.
הקשר שלי עם המצולמות הוא הדדי.
אני נכנסת לחייהן ברשות, ומתוך רצון לתת לא פחות ממה שאני מקבלת.
כך נולד הרעיון ליום הזה.
יצאתי לשוק הסמוך למקדש וקניתי שפע פרחים.
הפרחים הובאו אל הבית.
באולם המרכזי ניצב המקדש של רדהא, ושם הם בורכו בתפילה.
לאחר מכן חילקה כל אחת מהנשים את הפרחים אל המקדש הקטן שלצד מיטתה.
כך הסתיים היום –
בפרחי לוטוס, בזֵרי מריגולד וביסמין,
בשירה, ובשמחה משותפת.
Flowers and Prayer – What I Gave and What I Received

They are part of my life – the “mothers.”
This is how they are called in the widows’ home established by the MAITRI organization, founded by Winnie Singh. Its mission is to save lives and provide dignity and quality of life to elderly women who have been rejected by their families. After the death of the husband, many of these women become unwanted—excluded from both affection and inheritance.
My relationship with the women I photograph is always reciprocal.
I enter their lives with permission, with a desire to give no less than I receive.
This is how the idea for that day was born.
I went to the nearby market and bought an abundance of flowers.
The flowers were brought into the home and blessed in prayer at the central shrine of Radha, Krishna’s consort.
Afterwards, each woman placed flowers at the small personal shrine beside her bed.
Thus the day came to an end—
with lotus flowers, yellow marigold garlands, and jasmine,
with song, and with shared joy.
